Li Kao's Research

By going through old documents and eye witness accounts, and adding in their own observations from when they were at the manor, including the various haunts they encountered, Li Kao puts together the following timeline of Foxglove Manor and its ill-fated family:

86 years ago:  rising merchant prince Vorel Foxglove completes construction of his sea side estate.  The building is partially funded by the Brothers of Seven, with the understanding that ownership will revert to them after 100 years.

66 years ago:  Vorel attempts to become immortal by transforming himself into an undead lich.  His wife interrupts the ritual and Vorel's body is destroyed in an explosion of tumours and disease.  No one leaves the house alive.

23 years ago:  Vorels great-nephew, Travers Foxglove, a big game hunter of some repute, moves into the manor.  Aldern and his two sisters are born.

17 years ago:  Travers goes mad.  His wife Cyralie burns the servants quarters but is thrown off the roof by Travers when she tries to burn the manor itself.  The children are sen to Korvosa.

2 years ago:  Aldern returns to the manor and begins restoration work.  He makes contact with the Brothers of Seven, who agree to fund the work.

Last year:  Nearly bankrupt, and with his sanity under constant attack by the ghost of Vorel, Aldern visits Sandpoint for the Swallowtail festival to forget his troubles.  He meets Seoni and Sasha.  He and Seoni are married within months.

2 months ago:  Vorel's ghost finally drives Aldern mad and he murders Seoni.

From the ledgers, Li Kao surmises that after the murder, Aldern went to the Brothers of Seven for help, and they started to blackmail him, hence the weekly payments he was making at the sawmill.  How and when he was transformed into a ghoul remains unclear.

Li's research into the Brothers of Seven themselves proves less fruitful.  They were a consortium of seven merchants that formed around the time that Magnimar began to truly expand, about 100 years ago.  They are a semi secret society of merchants, or thieves, depending on who you talk to.  Members of the society periodically visited Foxglove manor during the time it was unlived in, ostensibly to check up on their investment and make minor repairs.  Among the founding members of the Brothers of Seven were Vorel Foxglove and Ironbriar, now a Justice on Magnimar's city council.

Finally, as the day grows long Li Kao finds some tax records in the city's dept of exports.  Several weeks ago all of Aldern Foxglove's debts to the Brothers of Seven were cleared in exchange for some "biological samples."  The Brothers have since arranged to have these samples shipped to Korvosa on board a fast frigate owned by one of their members.  The ship, named the "Red Gull," is due to leave port this very day.

(Did I interpret this correctly? Ironbriar is over a hundred years old?)

(If Sasha is within 160' of Li Kao he will immediately Message to her. If not he will run as quickly as his old legs will carry him to relay the information to his party. They must stop/catch the Red Gull.)

((Also...in regards to money and items which you raised in the last post: being a monk of inner perfection, Li Kao donates any money he is given to the poor. Although, he will spend money on new spells (which he will attempt to learn to broaden his knowledge of arcana, thereby moving closer towards enlightenment.) He will never request any found items from the party, relying on the party's generosity to give him any class appropriate items as gifts.))
